Vegan Bridal makeup

Thursday January 30th 2020

I have been providing a Vegan bridal service for 5 years now and am so excited to share the absolute best products to use on your wedding day!

Bridal make up is so special and I have been working in this field for over 20 years, so when I switched my kit to Vegan/cruelty free I wanted to be certain that my work wouldn’t be compromised.

I always discuss skin care and lifestyle with my brides in the run up their big and its’ an  area I am very passionate about and something that is crucial to the overall look and feel on the day. I think just small tweaks here and there can make big changes and I think there are many good quality Vegan products out there that are truly fabulous.

A flawless bridal make up has to look amazing in pictures, give a bride a healthy glow and most importantly it has to last the entire day despite sometimes quite warm, sunny conditions and damp rainy days too. I am always looking out for the best waterproof products, so my make-up application stays fresh for the entire day.

I’m always discovering new products and secrets that I want to share with my brides. Here are my absolute favourite beauty products of the moment that a bride shouldn’t be without!

Cacay Oil

So, I never thought I would find a product more wonderful than Rosehip seed oil, an amazing product that is a beautiful addition to skin of all ages and types, the skin appearance is so different after only a couple of days use. Cacay oil is rich in both vitamin E and Retinol, this is a natural source of Vitamin A and contains more fatty acids and more Vitamin A than Rosehip seed oil making it a ‘can’t live without product’ in the run up to your big day. Use this product under your night cream or just a small amount around the forehead or the face bone around the eyes. The vitamin E will help diminish fine lines and the Vitamin A will work to give your skin a wonderful healthy glow. I tell my brides to use this 2/3 weeks prior to the wedding and it really makes all the difference! - Cacay Oil

Facial Exfoliation

Dead skin cells can build up on the face and cause so much chaos to the skin’s appearance. Common problems such as pimples, excess oil, dry and dull skin and even sensitivity could be avoided by adding this into your skincare 1 or 2 times per week. Choose a gentle formula with fine beads, there are many Vegan and eco-friendly products on the market that are kind to animals the skin and the environment plus you can even make your own if you are on a budget. Mix 1 tsp of brown sugar with 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and massage in small circles around the face for 1 min. splash the face with warm water or pat with a warm towel. You will be impressed with the results!

Lip balm

I don’t know why but the lips are always overlooked! On many occasions I meet with a bride with glorious skin (and a wonderful skincare routine) and then dry and flaky lips! You need to wear a lip balm in the run up to the wedding day especially if you are prone to dry lips. Well-conditioned lips will be plump and smooth, and products will not only look better but will stay on longer throughout the day also preventing products from bleeding out of the lip line. Check out LUSH they have great lip balms that taste amazing, and lip scrubs too.! - Lush

Foundation Primer

I’m sure everyone is familiar with a foundation primer. Perhaps it’s not something you would use every day but for a special occasion however I would definitely recommend it! A primer acts as a barrier between your skin and your make up. It smooths the skin and creates a base for the make-up products to adhere to. It definitely helps the make-up stay on longer and it definitely  enhances the overall look. There are some really great Vegan primers out there, I’m loving Too Faced Hangover primer, full of additional goody’s such as probiotics and perfect for stressed, tired skin or Kryolan HD Micro Primer.

Highlighter/Bronzer

I love highlighter and bronzer … it just makes the Bridal look in my opinion!!  It looks great in pictures as the light reflective particles are picked up on camera giving the skin a fresh dewy, healthy glow! I buff a highlighter around the brow bone or on the chest bone too, this also can look great. You really need a good quality product and thankfully there are many good Vegan products out there, my favourites are Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Becca is a Cruelty Free brand with many Vegan products in their line, I’ve been using this particular product for years now and I can’t imagine being without it! Another favourite of mine is PIXI Glow this product is definitely worth shouting about. Pixi is a lovely range with many Vegan products in the line. I have Delicate Dew in my kit which is great for most skin tones, but they do this product in a few shades too. -Pixi

Brows

Groomed brows are essential for the perfect make up look. As a make-up artist this is one important area that always gets my attention. Getting the right shape is crucial and this is not something you can engineer, you really have to work with what you have. You will get the best results if you follow your natural brow line. My advice would be to see a professional, threading is widely available and fairly inexpensive so worth the money. By exposing the brow bone and tidying up stray hairs you will create a natural lift, making the eyes wider and brighter …. A bit of a facelift!! There are so many great products out there and different types of application to choose from. I use Wunderbrow a brow gel that gives a great natural look but is honestly smudge proof, a truly great product and available in various shades.

Setting Spray

I have tried many Setting sprays along the way in last couple of years and you really need to buy a good quality product or you’re in trouble! After spending the time on a beautiful make up application you don’t want a spray to spoil your work. A setting spray is great as it sets the make up giving it staying power, I also find it takes away any shine giving a matt finish without a chalky appearance. Fab too for setting lippy!! When it comes to a fixing spray you won’t find a better one than Ben Nye Final Seal, I work a lot in media so this is a lifesaver and really does the job! Great for perspiration, hot climates, oily skin tones .. the list could go on. It is slightly minty so quite refreshing too, my brides love it!!

I hope more artists will look to provide a Vegan service as more and more brides are wanting this!! It is kinder to animals, products contain less harmful ingredients that work with the skin not against it and with many good quality Vegan products on the market this is a great option for your wedding day!
